Iberdrola presented its results for the first nine months of the year on Wednesday, a period that closed with a reported net profit of €5.816 billion, which represents 10% more than in the same period last year. Meanwhile, adjusted net profit stood at €5.141 billion, 9% more, or 13% excluding the impact of exchange rates.

The company points out that the increase in profit has been mainly due to "the increase in investments, the good performance of the networks business, and the improvement of the new regulatory frameworks". According to the company, in the first nine months of the year, investments have increased by 13%, reaching €10.087 billion, with nearly 75% allocated to the United Kingdom, the United States, and Brazil, to "boost electrification worldwide".

"Electric networks once again concentrate the bulk of this investment commitment," highlighted Iberdrola, which has allocated €6.277 billion to this area, representing a 28% increase compared to the same period last year and already accounts for 62% of the group's total investment.

More than 90% of this was allocated to the United Kingdom, the United States, and Brazil. "This commitment allows Iberdrola to strengthen the necessary infrastructures to respond to the strong growth in electricity demand and continue promoting the electrification of the economy," it stated in the note.

It also emphasizes that the growth in investment is also reflected in the evolution of the regulated asset base (RAB), which has increased by 14%, reaching €56 billion, driven especially by transport networks, where growth reached 31%.

Alongside the networks, Iberdrola has continued to strengthen its generation and customer businesses, where investments have reached €3.600 billion. Of this amount, €3.257 billion has been allocated to renewable generation, primarily for land and offshore wind projects. More than 80% of this investment was directed towards the United States, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, and Australia.

It is worth noting that the company has installed 3.300 MW in the last 12 months. This new capacity is part of the 15.000 MW that Iberdrola plans to install by 2030, "consolidating an increasingly prepared generation portfolio to meet the new electricity needs of homes, industry, and businesses," it says.

On another note, Iberdrola has confirmed that adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (Ebitda) has increased by 7% during the period, reaching €11.891 billion, while excluding the impact of exchange rates, growth has been 8%.

Additionally, it boasts of maintaining a "solid" financial position, and states that "the strength of the balance sheet" allows it to maintain a credit rating of BBB+, while it has a liquidity of €23 billion, sufficient to cover 20 months of financing needs. "A position that provides room to continue executing its ambitious investment programme," it notes.

8.7% increase in the dividend

The positive evolution of the business will directly impact shareholders, as Iberdrola has announced an 8.7% increase in the interim dividend, to €0.275 per share. The total interim dividend will amount to €1.835 billion, compared to €1.690 billion last year, the company explained, adding that this amount will later be supplemented by the complementary dividend, which will be approved at the 2027 General Shareholders' Meeting.
Iberdrola shareholders will have three options for receiving this remuneration: receive new shares, receive the dividend in cash, or sell the rights on the market.

Forecast of 10% profit growth

Furthermore, the company has assured that the positive evolution of the business allows it to improve its outlook for 2026. Iberdrola now expects to achieve a growth of at least 10% in adjusted net profit, supported by the execution of its investments and the increasing contribution from new assets.

Beyond that, Iberdrola has set a goal to maintain an average annual growth of 10% in adjusted net profit for the next five years, taking advantage of the new investment cycle opened by the electrification of the economy. "The increase in electricity demand, the incorporation of renewables, and the need to develop the networks business create a structural growth scenario for the coming years," it indicates.

These forecasts are based on the company's projection that its regulated asset base will grow in all its markets to exceed €90 billion by 2030. Furthermore, it expects to incorporate 15.000 MW of new capacity between 2025 and 2030.
