The General Council of Economists of Spain (CGE) and the Order of Certified Accountants of Portugal (OCC) have signed a collaboration agreement to develop joint initiatives aimed at strengthening training, international projection, and recognition of accounting and finance professionals in Europe and Latin America.

The agreement, signed in Lisbon by the presidents of both organisations, represents a new step in institutional cooperation between Spain and Portugal and seeks to address the challenges posed by an economic environment characterised by the growing internationalisation of businesses, regulatory harmonisation, and the incorporation of sustainability criteria in corporate information.

The first initiative arising from this alliance will be the creation of the title of Expert in International Corporate Reporting: Accounting and Sustainability, a joint professional accreditation designed for professionals in the Ibero-American field who are developing or wish to develop their activities in international markets.

The training programme will last for 210 hours and will be delivered between November 2026 and May 2027 in a fully online format, through the platform e-conocimiento.org. Classes will be offered in Spanish and Portuguese with simultaneous translation, facilitating access for participants from different countries.

The itinerary will include a common block of 150 hours dedicated to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), sustainability reporting, financial analysis, and sustainable finance. In addition, it will incorporate four specific modules on the accounting, tax, and commercial regulations of Spain, Portugal, and Brazil, along with a module focused on the regulatory framework of Latin America.

Among the contents are the main international sustainability standards, such as ESRS, GRI, and ISSB, as well as aspects related to data collection and management, double materiality analysis, the preparation of corporate reports, and an introduction to independent verification processes.

The methodology will combine live classes, on-demand content, practical cases, sessions taught by international experts, and networking opportunities. Furthermore, the training will allow participants to take the complete programme or undertake independent modules, with those participants receiving a specific certification, while those who complete the entire itinerary will receive the joint title issued by the CGE and the OCC.

The heads of both institutions highlighted that the initiative aims to contribute to the convergence of accounting and sustainability practices between the two countries, strengthen the competitiveness of companies—especially SMEs with cross-border activities—and advance towards an Iberian professional space with international projection.
