Social Security affiliation recorded the largest increase for September, with 92,327 more employed compared to August, thanks to the boost from foreign employment resulting from the extraordinary regularisation process and the start of the school year, reports the EFE agency.
According to data from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, the September advance left the total number of affiliates at 22.43 million, of which 3.6 million are foreign workers, 84,220 more than in August.
Regarding unemployment, the Ministry of Labour has reported that registered unemployment increased by 23,587 people in September, reaching 2.37 million.
The second vice president and Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz, has attributed the improvements in employment to the effect of the extraordinary regularisation that has allowed “hundreds of thousands of neighbours who lived and worked in Spain to now register with both Social Security and unemployment”.
In year-on-year terms, affiliation has added 739,888 working affiliates in the last year (at a rate of 3.41%), while unemployment has decreased by 42,160 people (1.74% less).
“The behaviour of the affiliation of foreigners is particularly dynamic,” emphasises Social Security in a note where it details that, as of 30 September, the number of foreign affiliates regularised in the extraordinary process amounted to 421,306, 83,389 more than the last day of August.
By countries of origin, the one with the most affiliates from the regularisation process is Colombia (118,485), followed by Venezuela (71,999). These two countries account for almost half of the total at the end of September.
