The Board of Directors of Talgo has appointed Ricardo Chocarro Melgosa as the new Chief Executive Officer of the company, to which he has been linked since February 2026 as an independent director, replacing Rafael Sterling.
According to the company, Ricardo Chocarro joined the Talgo board as an independent following the shareholding change and the entry of the new shareholders of the Basque consortium led by José Antonio Jainaga.
Chocarro is a chartered engineer and has nearly 30 years of professional experience in high-tech sectors, particularly in aerospace and renewable energies.
In 2017, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Onshore business of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, and two years later, he joined as head of Finance and Planning Control, M&A and diversification activities. Subsequently, between 2020 and 2025, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer.
According to Talgo's president, José Antonio Jainaga, "the industrial and technological experience, as well as the track record" of Ricardo Chocarro will provide "a new impetus for Talgo, at a time of great development in the railway sector, in which the company must be a strategic player."
Additionally, he thanked "the dedication and work" of Rafael Sterling during these years, who "had decided to embark on a new professional activity."
Rafael Sterling was appointed General Director of Talgo on 17 December of last year, at the first board meeting of the company after the entry of new shareholders into its capital, during which the return of the company's social and tax headquarters to Álava was also approved.
